about
This song is about crying, partly. It isn't meant to make complete sense on a scientific level (re: onions, etc), but it's me playing with the notion of 'which came first, the emotion or the physical reaction?' Sometimes just physically crying makes me feel sad.
It's also about Buddhism, and the idea therein of letting go of your desire. I have always found that particular concept to be a great source of comfort in my life.
lyrics
The world won't end if you're not happy
The world won't end if you die
But I can tell you the secret truth
Of why onions make you cry
Nothing's free and nothing's fair
Most things aren't up to you
Sometimes you really are the victim
And there's nothing at all that you can do
The world won't end if you're not happy
The world won't end if you die
But I can tell you the secret truth
Of why onions make you cry
All your hard work could be for nothing
There are no guarantees
So let go all your desperation
and calmly allow your heart to freeze
The world won't end if you're not happy
The world won't end if you die
Onions don't really do a damn thing
But everyone secretly wants an excuse to cry
