This song is not about any particular city. It is about an idea that has haunted my head since childhood. I have grown more mature and less reckless than the voice in this song, but that voice is still a part of me.
lyrics
I was a ten-year-old kid but I knew there was more
Something I had barely ever seen before
I knew a secret
It was all bright lights and people and noise
without a regret
City, I'm gonna find you
I know you are waitin' for me
I don't care how much I lose for you
If I can be where I want to be
My city ain't evil she just ain't all good
She's a little crossroads who did what she could
She's a boomtown
Listen to the traffic outside of my window
It's a beautiful sound
City, you know I love you
I hope that you can love me too
There ain't nobody inside your limits
That understands you like I do
I walk on the sidewalk with the crumbling edge
I walk on cobblestones by the manicured hedge
I walk everywhere
She's got a thousand faces ev'ry place that you look
You can see her there
City, you know I'll be here
My ghost is gonna walk your streets
I ain't never gonna leave you
For as long as your great heart beats
My city ain't evil she just ain't all good
She's a little crossroads who did what she could
She's a boomtown
Listen to the train rumb'ling under the sidewalk
It's a beautiful sound
